Research highlights (to be updated)

In situ TEM (Ge nanowires)

(Work done with Jerry Tersoff, Mark Reuter, Frances Ross at IBM T.J. Watson Research Center)

*  Ge nanowires can grow with both solid and liquid catalysts.

*  AuGe catalyst exists as liquid below the bulk eutectic temperature.

*  Catalyst state (liquid/solid) depends on the Ge flux during VLS growth.

In situ TEM (Si nanowires)

(Work done with Frances Ross, Jim Hannon, Ruud Tromp  at IBM T.J. Watson Research Center)

In situ LEEM (TiN(111) spiral step dynamics 1400-1700K)

(Work done with

Wacek Swiech, Sanjay V. Khare, Kenji Ohmori, Ivan Petrov, Joe Greene at University of Illinois)

* Steps terminating at a dislocation core grow in the absence of any external flux.

* Occurs via transport of point defects between the bulk and the surface.

In situ STM (2D TiN island dynamics 1000-1250K)

(Work done with

Vania Petrova, Sanjay V. Khare, Arturas Vailionis, Ivan Petrov, Joe Greene at University of Illinois)
